Waking up paralyzed and exhausted every morning after a full night's sleep

In 2014 and 2015 I used to be an heavy addict edging on omegle for hours every other day month in month out. End 2015 I got control of my situation slowly minimalizing my relapses, going from once a week, to slipping back once a month which is where i'm at currently since the start of 2016. Since I withdrew from porn-use I have this strange issue where regardless of how much I sleep i'm waking up more or less paralyzed every single morning. My eyes are swollen, i'm barely able to open them and there is a underlying (energetical) internal exhaustion spread through my whole body which prevents me from having a good start into the day for 4 months now. Anyone else experiencing similar?

It must have something to do with the imbalance between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system caused by hours of edging to excitement (overstimulating the sympathetic branch) week in week out.

Same with me, no matter I'm on nofap or a binge, I still find it hard to wake up in the morning.

He's talking about a bodily problem. I have it too. I can get 8 hours in and wake up and my body doesn't wanna move at all...and the puffy eye thing, too. If I don't move, I just go back to sleep, I can easy do 2 or 3 more hours but that means one more wasted day. I literally have to PEEL myself out of bed most days...but once I've had a cup of tea, I'm usually ready to go.

    Annoying.

This is it exactly. I recall when I first started with no pmo still being in the middle of my addiction, i'd wake up with more clarity in mind and body with each day of progress. Hell, back then even after a night of porn I would wake up less exhausted then how i'm waking up nowadays where i'm actually being in control of my addiction.

Same here. When I was pmoing it was still hard to get up but when I was up I was wide awake and had more energy and clarity for the entire day believe it or not. Now my body just feels like a brick.

Yes this is a REM sleep disorder called sleep paralysis and I have experienced extremely weird sleeping issues such as sleep paralysis, vivid dreams, lucid dreams, hypnic jerking, body vibrations, sleep walking etc and even went and did a sleep study and was told my brainwaves are extremely strange. Only experience this after quitting porn.

Since taking pramipexole which is what people with parkinsons take for motor control issues (its dopamine based) i have cut those symptoms down and start getting atleast 4-5 hours sleep now and dont wake up exhausted. Its only been 3 weeks on it but hopefully i can ween it down.

Hi, i'm the OP. I wondered when did this issue start for you Was it already there in the midst of your porn use or did it occur when you left porn far behind?
It's more than annoying to me as the internal exhaustion lingers under the surface for the rest of my day. I'd do a lot for one day of waking up fresh and energized for life. What's odd about this, last week I stayed up long at night and despite having slept only 3 hours I didn't wake up 'paralyzed', not fresh either of course but no swollen eye-bags and deep internal exhaustion.

To elaborate on what you've said it indeed appears to be a REM sleep disorder caused by dopamine depletion and in particular low levels of d2-receptors. Basically this dopamine depleted state results in suppression of REM sleep (D2 dopaminergic transmission is required for the occurrence of rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep) explaining why I feel utterly exhausted after 7+ hours of sleep.

I am a recovering chronic edger... 6/7 hours per session. End of session feel like I've just done a 100m sprint, anxious, paranoid etc. I can relate to exhaustion, I think it may be our brain missing that adrenaline shot, almost like a withdrawal no?

If the OP is using porn once a month it could be some kind of weird flatline situation. I'm wondering if every time he uses porn he re-starts the process.

Edging and playing out the addiction is exhausting. I am mastering the art of doing "nothing". A lot of people on here are all about getting motivated and seeking external success. The natural state of humans is one where leisure predominates, not work. When I feel like I am moving towards self destructive behavior I go sit in the back yard or go to sleep if it is after dark. For me the life of contemplation is immensely rewarding. More than anything porn robbed me of the ability to be present and content. Once you eliminate all the work that you are putting into indulging or resisting cravings, there is plenty of time to take care of things. There isn't all that much to do, it's just a matter of being focused and organized to get things done efficiently rather than procrastinating due to a feeling of being overwhelmed. Sorry, this has been a bit off topic, but perhaps your perceived lack of energy is temporary and not something to worry about.

8 hours sleep is a made up number. Logically, we haven't had artificial lighting long enough to have evolved to sleep so little in the winter time. When people don't have access to artificial light they don't sleep 8 hours straight. Sleep is naturally broken up into two chunks with an hour or two of being awake in the middle of the night.

actually the more rem sleep you have the more tired you are. you get "rested " during deep sleep . Rem sleep is a good thing while on no pmo, it means that your brain is healing, after some time it will lessen. those dopamine pathwats are starting to come alive again

same happens with weed, weed smoking suppreses rem, after you quit weed you get a rem rebound, which fades after weeks months

This is a little gem of a post. I glanced over it a few day ago, only upon reading it a second time now, it's meaning gets through to me.
