The point is to be intellectually superior all rounded individual who is broad minded enough to talk about a range of different topics

    I, for myself,

haven't watched TV in somewhat 3 years and haven't followed the mainstream media for about 1,5 years.

One movie or another isn't too much of a danger if that's what you'd like to relax with (although horror movies stay unrecommended since it plays with your mind, where do you think some of the fears come? Bingo.)

I'm not forcing to quit it permanently, just at least keep it to a minimum. For instance, for mainstream media I found alternatives that I get the news that are useful for me and tells me way more than mainstream media wants me to know.

In the end - it's your choice how you want your life.

If a person watches TV 8 hours a day he wastes 1/3 of his life for that.. Count in sleep and a job that you don't like - when's the time that you trully enjoy yourself?

I, for one, like the attitude of "every person you meet knows something you don't", more interesting that way.

So do you count yourself as intellectually superior because you know more about some of the topics than others? I'm just missing the point of this 'superiority', I talk to people to socialize and have fun instead of show how smart I am in some topics.

Anyway, it's just my way, if you prefer it that way and that helps you get more friends to socialize with and to enjoy socializing itself more - keep it up.

Knowledge is power; the more you know, the more valuable you are. Why do you think governments and media are doing their utmost to dumb society down?

Interesting, define how you understand knowledge? Is it more in a theoretical way or in more post-experience way? I, personally, prefer the 2nd choice.

Also, I think that it's best for one to have his specialties of one or few topics, so you can really go deep in those and be the specialist of one or few things instead of knowing a little bit or everything. What are your thoughts/experience on this?

I believe you need both theoretical and first hand knowledge in order to fully understand the subject. Theory is only part of the way. For example it is no point preaching to the drug addict if you've never experienced an addiction. You may understand in theory how the brain and body becomes reliant on the substance but you cannot appreciate or know what it feels like to be in that position.

As for your view that you should specialise on a few topics, yes that is good, but then why limit yourself, when you have a limitless mind? There is no reason why shouldn't be able to go into depth in numerous topics, providing you have a passion for them.

At the moment I'm training my memory to be able to memorise entire books and any other kind of data indefinitely. I'm working to activate the super memory in the brain through mnemonics.

What a wonderful contribution to the discussion, I must say! :D

If this was posted to the 'Social Advice' sub-forum, it would have had maybe 3-5 responses tops.

As Laurynas has already said, there have been plenty of topics on the main forum that aren't directly about pornography addiction, but relate to it in ways.

Just look at the daily motivation thread, it gives people the added motivation to look at the bright side of life, something that they weren't about to effectively do when their brains were friend and dopamine levels destroyed due to the addiction.

It is to some 8) The ultimate goal of life is a very subjective matter and differs greatly from person to person.

My ultimate goal in life will likely be different from yours.

Wow, you really are dumb aren't ya?

Please tell me you aren't this dumb, and this is just your awful attempt at humor.

You're trying (quite unsuccessfully) to make Laurynas look foolish by implying that he saying that all movies and documentaries are bad.

He's clearly not - He posted a documentary here for god's sake.

I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead as well, it was a brilliantly made documentary. I wasn't fat to begin with, but it did provide me with certain useful information regarding natural, organic foods and such.

    Oh yeah?

Please enlighten me as to how I'm a fan of "going backwards."

    What does that even mean?

I'm assuming your statement stems from the often-misguided belief that history can be looked at on a singular linear timeline.

That perspective fails to recognize that history acts in a cyclical manner, with civilizations rising and falling. No civilization is permanent.

And why the personal attacks all of a sudden?

If you disagree with me over something, debate me.

Probably a hollywood film, which means America and corporatism, therefore bad and evil, MUST NOT WATCH!!!

Fat, sick and nearly dead if a fantastic documentary. Just my 2 cents.

Edit: I'm really eating too many sweets again :/

That's assuming he's interested in a thoughtful discussion or an intelligent debate here.

Neither of these options seem to be his goal judging from his comments in this thread.

This topic clearly makes him uncomfortable, which is why he chose to result to personal attacks and poor attempts at humor aimed to disparage your point of view.

    You haven't answered my question,

Why the launch of personal attacks against me?

It makes you seem really insecure and unable to engage in an intellectual discussion / debate.

    Take your assumptions elsewhere.

    I'm not Rasta, middle-class or upper-middle class.

Having a desire to change certain aspects of society is now bad or strange?!

And if you were, would that automatically invalidate the objections to how society works? No.

Apparently they would, according to Modus ::)

No. Too fucking long to think up of all the details I've read from your posts and then sit here and form well thought out paragraphs, so here's some general terminology to go off :
    -Capitalism is evil
-Modern day America is the worst civilization to ever exist
-We should take the Paleo diet and apply it to everything in life
-One should not watch any media
-Fight Club is a bible and should be taken literally, rather than seen as the entertainment that it is

(and I'm not even American, so don't try)

Modus, it sounds like your reacting to an alternative debate instead of discussing it out of fear, because you're comfortable in your deluded bubble you don't want to see or hear anything that has the potential of bursting it.

Your one of these people who want and loved to be deceived just so you don't have to think, but instead just go through life in a daydream oblivious to the causes and effects of what goes on around you
