My goal here is to reduce the amount of time I wast online. I'll be adding a counter for this. Here are the rules...

"online time" counts as time spent...
    1. Gaming
    2. Watching TV
    3. On the internet for non school/ ybr related purposes

I get 1 hour of "online time" per day BUT it must come after the following has been met
    1. Swim workout completed (+ weight lifting every other day)
    2. Homework completed for the next day + 20 mins spent on upcoming homework
    3. Practiced guitar for 30 mins

Additionally if I fail to do my nightly ab workout before bed I forfeit my "online time" for the next day

On top of this I get AT MAXIMUM 30 Minutes on YBR every day.

Since I started building on my no PMO streak, gaming and internet browsing have really gone up. I need to stop that. Lets do this!

Rock on. Just outlawed news, social, and fun sites on my laptop from 7-5, M-F. I can smell the freedom.

Wow I failed today really bad. I was honestly getting internet cravings! I guess calling Starcraft "Starcrack" is accurate! Back on the horse for tomorrow I guess

Realizing how much time I spend browsing internet forums, not even posting just reading. My goal for tomorrow- the only forum I go on will be YBR!

I'm going back to these goals as part of "HARD MODE"
I'm also allowing twitter with the rule that I check less than 1/hour while I don't have work to do and I may only tweet @ people no random tweets allowed

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

I just discovered these places a few days ago - I'm at around 10 days no PMO. Problem now is that I have a whole bunch more "spare" time, and I want to learn as much as I can about symptoms and effects, so I'm spending TONS of time here...

But just today realized that I have been VERY VERY addicted to the internet too. At least half of my life the last 3 years has been spent on forums, surfing, facebook, etc...

So on top of giving up coffee, porn and masturbation, I need to try to cut out (or severely down) my internet use. What a chang in lifestyle!

Good work Hurtin. Shut it down and live life. Breaking my smartphone was the best week I've had in a while. I work on the computer so closing windows immediately helps me focus on the next task and keep my head clear. We're easily distracted and porn knows it.

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

I'm going to restart this thread. The goal is to COMPLETELY ELIMINATE all unnecessary internet/ entertainment from my life for one month. I was away on offline for a week over the summer and it was the clearest I've been mentally in forever.

Here are the things that are not acceptable:
    Forums (other than YBR 1x/day)
    Random articles
    Cracked/Reddit
    TV
    Gaming
    Porn (duh)
    Random checking of twitter

Basically I will only use the internet to do homework or to learn things on guitar. Looking up guitar related things that do not involve actually playing something on guitar is out though.

    Let the challenge begin.

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

Shit this was harder than I expected. I was on ybr a few times but managed to stay off the internet until like 3 and then surfed more than I would have wanted to for the rest of the day. Still some amount of progress. I did use the guitar lesson exception to learn a whole new song which never happens in one day!

Tomorrow I'll be at school so avoiding goofing off online while "taking notes" on my ipad will be hard as hell but I can do it!

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

Getting in and getting out with using internet is key but difficult. The urge to surf and browse is strong but moving on to the next task quickly helps along with peaceful reading and praying (similar to stopping PMO for me).

The ipad at school was a killer. I just couldn't pay attention today for anything. Then went home and binged hard on video games. Got off that a few hours ago and spent some time learning another new song (although a much easier one than yesterday) but if I can keep up a song every few days in a month or two I'll have dozens of songs under my belt!

Tomorrow school is off, and the computer will be the same! See you tomorrow around now YBR!

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

Last few days with the ipad and sheer boredom of senior year h.s. are killing me. Absolutely no desire whatsoever to focus in class. I need to get off twitter, off the internet and back into real life now.

Just dive into something, no matter how small, and get something done. It will help you move on to other things.

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

I'm getting better at this at home, at school is the killer. I have 1 class that is usually new stuff and I almost never surf/ goof off on the internet. The other 3 are exercises in boredom. I'm thinking about trying to do something productive online (like learning programming or writing scholarship essays) while not paying attention!

    Rant
There's a reason public schooling in the US is basically DEAD LAST in the developed world. I go to a high school in the top 10% in the northeastern suburbia, which is so far beyond city schools or the south its not even funny. Still, I know more about some subjects than my teachers IN AP CLASSES!!!. I wanted to skip this year and go to college just to get away from our pathetic public high school system. There are about 4 truly motivated people in my entire graduating class (not me I guess I should be thankful this b.s. comes easy to me) , and about 100 potheads who are failing sophomore algebra for the third time. I just don't understand. Outside of school I can control myself on the internet, but at school I need an escape.

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

Made the conscious decision to get off twitter last night. My account is deactivated for now. Just like with PMO its time for an internet battle plan.

AT HOME- Ipad always off unless doing homwork. Ukulele always on my desk for easy access. Phone off and charging in a different room. Every time I click I need to do a "reality check" on if it serves one of two purposes.

    1. Is it going to help with my homework/ make me a better person (like YBR in moderation)
    2. Am I LEARNING something ON guitar, not ABOUT guitar

AT SCHOOL- Ipad only comes to periods 1,2,6,7. Phone only comes to pds 1 and 7. Laptop only comes to study hall for purposes of calc class ONLY. I will have wifi disabled when it is not in use. NO BROWSING OR GAMES ALLOWED IN CLASS.

Doing a little bit better today, still much progress to make. Twitter gives me minor withdrawals every time I quit it, but that's over now.

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

I can take notes much faster by hand or typing on a keyboard. I don't think I could do it on a touchscreen/tablet. Are others different?

Our hs uses them as textbooks and audio recorders for language classes do sadly I need to bring it. I will say it is way easier to organize digital notes than paper.

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

Today was pretty successful, I got a lot of stuff done and have wasted maybe 10 total minutes on the internet. Today's plan was total restriction, keep myself from having the opportunity. I did everything in the plan and deleted all my ipad games anyway and its amazing what got done!

    So far I
caught up on a metric shitton of homework
did some homework not due for a few days
    wrote a scholarship essay
    paid attention in class

and all on the day after a relapse!

Re: Swim Addict's Internet Reduction Thread

And after one good day I fall apart. Massive internet binges today. Probably has something to do with the PMO. Ok. New measures in place now to keep me offline.

This weekend I have a big swim meet, but instead of going into a death metal fueled rage I'm gonna do a no tech weekend. I will use my phone GPS to get there and back, but other than that no technology allowed until after the meet on sunday. After that I will go back to current rules.
