The Science Behind Porn Induced E.D.

Discussion in 'Erectile Dysfunction / Delayed Ejaculation' started by TheUnderdog, Feb 20, 2012.

  1. Change how society works, or change our behaviour? Both methods work, but why do we have to choose one or the other? Can't we try to do both for maximum effect? That's the point I'm trying to make: Take a more holistic approach. Both the sexual AND non-sexual components of porn addiction have to be tackled simultaneously. It's just my opinion that unhealthy male stereotypes in society is the most important part of the non-sexual component of porn addiction, at least for the younger generation.

I see your point, though. We are fat not because of the media, but because food is cheap, delicious and freely available. Same with porn these days. But the media and current social norms make things worse, and are not helpful for recovery.

Btw, we are losing the war on obesity. Surely more has to be done than relying on individual choice?

It also means, that the way young people learn about sex has to be evaluated and if possible improved.

Kids learn about sex where? Parents, friends, school, media, porn. Maybe 5 have actually read a book.

All too often parents don't openly talk to their kids about sex when they have questions. It also appears schools in the US mostly base sexual-education around "abstinence until marriage" (meaning kids learn more or less nothing about the realities of sex there) - so they learn from friends, media and porn. The five who read a book are maybe fine, the others can end up very ignorant about sex and have a high risk of not learning to make smart decisions about sex. A good part of those end up abusing porn. The results of bad decisions are all over this forum.

  3. Bingo. It would almost be too harsh to call it the results of bad decisions. I would say the results of miseducation are all over this forum.

that's not what people want though
we are our own worst enimies
what do you propose to change the masses?

  5. Well, there are already pioneers that are trying to change the masses like Gary Wilson and Harrison Pope. There just needs to be more grassroots support from ordinary guys like us. The biggest obstacle is that publicly criticizing the hyper-masculine ideal makes you look like a sissy. That's a huge mental hurdle for straight men to overcome.

Maybe what we really need is a Jamie Oliver of sex. ;D

yeah, that's basically what everyone says, they know the problem, they dont have a solution

things will change if we make people accountable for what they do.
in USA, we go the other way, people are not accountable for what they do
there is no more "survival of the fittest"
people expect the USA to take care of them just because they are here, not because they contribute to society/the herd,
    look at health insurance, etc

In response to my previous post, the answer I have found is roughly 3 weeks ( just under 20 days I reckon in my experience) Is that good? I am happy with how its going although it could be better but still satisfied. Only thing that stopped me from relapse is the fact that I felt a bit depressed recently and hence had a reduced Libido. If I were in a normal mood I probably would have went out of my mind by now.

granted you are better off(cheaper/easier) just fasting a few days a week and increasing telomeres small pilot study shows for the first time that changes in diet, exercise, stress management and social support may result in longer telomeres, the parts of chromosomes that affect aging.

I would really like to see an update on this, as many of us seem to need much more than 4-5 months to regain erectile function. Most of what is in that post is probably still accurate, but there might be something new about younger men. That’s from 2012 or 2013, I believe. I wonder what Gary Wilson would write today. The timeframe for recovery is now probably longer for many men... But maybe there are other new things that we have to consider, seven years later?
