Speed Up Healing, Protect The Brain During Relapse, Ease Withdrawals

    Guys, I've done a lot of research about the brain over the years in an attempt to understand myself and what was happening to me (depression and lack of motivation mostly).

    When I found out I was a PMO addict I knew I had found the primary cause of all my troubles, but I went on to pretty much ignore all the nutritional stuff I had learned over the years because I knew that staying clean was the answer -- big mistake.

    The truth is that simple nutrition and supplements can aid a lot in our recovery from porn addiction! The science shows that nutrition can speed brain healing from trauma (extreme dopamine spikes from super stimulus), protect our brains from these traumas (dreaded relapses), as well as ease withdrawal symptoms (so we can stay on track).

    Yes, PMO addiction (in my case) is the main culprit, it has caused my depression and brain issues, however not using the knowledge I've gained about nutrition and just using abstinence from PMO alone is silly.

    So, how do I know for sure PMO is the cause for certain? When I am clean from PMO my depression goes away completely, takes about 2 weeks to 2 months after relapses, so I am convinced.

    In order to kick the habit for good I've decided to fully revisit and implement the power of nutrition and supplements. There are mountains of evidence that certain foods and vitamins are neuro-protective as well as neuro-regenerative…and lastly, even helpful with the pain of withdrawal.

    The main winners that I have found in healing, protection, and withdrawal help are vitamin C (mega doses), Niacin (mega doses in conjunction with all over B vitamins), cur cumin (from turmeric), and omega 3's fat (flax, fish oils).

    Eating high protein, good fats, low refined sugars/starches, and high fruits and vegetables is also extremely important.

    Hope this information helps others. Think of the power of this information, these substances have studies that show they help rebuild receptors and neurons (speed brain healing), protect us during relapse (cur cumin is very neuro-protective), and aid in withdrawal cravings (vitamin C).

    Here's been my dilema...

    Some people take supplements and antidepressants etc.. in order to make the withdrawals easier. To boost mood and such...

    I've always had the theory that you HAVE to experience those emotional lows in order for your brain to heal the fastest and most effectively.

    Mood can tell you things about your neurochemistry.. I used to take Adderall for instance... basically prescription amphetamine.. Made me feel fantastic. I felt fantastic because my brain was being bathed in neurotransmitters.

    So in turn.. medicating your withdrawals with supplements that improve mood....That only raises brain chemicals.. wouldn't that only slow your reboot down?

    That's my dilema with nootropics.

    My idea is you should keep stimulation as low as possible. By avoiding alcohol, drugs, tobacco, caffeine etc..

    Viper, I agree with your stance…however these particular supplements/foods do NOT cause dopamine release or inhibit dopamine break down, they are the building blocks of new cells and receptors. They decrease inflammation and increase circulation which help the body to repair damaged parts of the brain.

    These substances protect and build new neurons, which is exactly what exercise, nutrition, and socialization do.

    I took Wellbutrin for a long time I know that things like these drugs are NOT a long term solution. At least not for me.


    New article on uridine above…I'm going to give this one a try.

    P.S. All anti-oxidants are neuro-protective and regenerative, as they aid in repair. Vitamin D is another one I left out.

    Oh and YES some nootropics seem like they might be very dangerous and drug-like, perhaps some of these stimulate dopamine release in large quantities? I have not done enough research on the gamut of these substances. Do your own due diligence.

    Anything that stimulates a big release of dopamine could slow down the reboot, surely this makes sense.

    I do disagree that we have to hit emotional lows, or super emotional lows. We may have to all go through flatlines, which for me was simply feeling asexual and having up and down moods, a dead dick…I was not suicidal or anything. But, again everyone is different.

    If mega dosing vitamin C (smartly) can help some of the guys on here with withdrawals, well fuck, I say try it! Withdrawals can be utter hell, some of the guys in withdrawal here are in serious pain, I see it every day. And again, vitamin C does NOT cause dopamine release like a drug it's an anti inflammatory (according to many).

    From 16 to 19. Took it regularly from 16-18. Felt fantastic after I took it but after it wore off, I had more anxiety. I completely quit taking it when after I started reboot at 19, I wanted to get my brain as sensitive as possible.

    Overall energy. Dont feel tired or drained. Havent been having naps etc

    Still have ED and that but i dont think it helps much with libido.

    I agree with the sentiment in this forum. But I definitely think that HARDMODE is the best way to speed up healing. To suffer these horrible feelings I have been through.

    One has to stay completely clean so there can be no excuse to heal in a few years or months.

    Without a doubt this is correct. However, it is possible that these things can be very helpful for some. Anything that helps can be the difference between success and failure, it seems worth it to experiment in a smart, gradual way.

    One other point, although I completely agree with Gary's science about P, I do believe that over masturbation and over ejaculation play a role in weakening the body and brain. Personally, I'm done with M and I plan on regulating O from here on out.

    I definitely used M (before high speed internet) as a way to deal with stress, and I feel it weakened me in my youth.

    I did NOT develop ED until high speed internet, but I did experience lack of motivation and depression from over masturbating. I remember when I first had trouble with my girlfriend with ED, that was in about 1999. Suffered in silence and then found online ED drugs, I just figured I had some sort of deficiency that I couldn't put my finger on, never did I think porn was the culprit. Also, I started edging and limited O's because that's what Taoist websites suggested, of course in the old days there was no internet porn. The edging probably messed me up even more, actually without a doubt.

    I'm just going to keep posting what I find, there is so much knowledge on the brain these days.

    Taking pregnenolone can likely speed unwiring from porn and rewiring to real women. That's what neurogensis is - changing the brain from one wiring to another - we can super charge neuroplasticity while we reboot! For long rebooters, all of this information should be very encouraging. It is possible that your brains just need a little boost to speed healing. Maybe your diet sucks, maybe your life is boring, maybe you drink alcohol, maybe you don't meditate or exercise -- these things slow neurogensis! I find this all fascinating, I hope others do as well.

    Great points. It's easy to ignore our health. One study is out today saying one dose of antidepressant rapidly alters brain architecture. Be careful and try to stay natural!

    Green tea may help with brain plasticity, just went out and got some. Mmm, delicious.

    And what about using those free brain training games your parents use? Guys, everything helps.

    Nutrition alone is not the answer, but it's synergistic with exercise, being social, and active learning. Find out where you can improve and it may be all the difference in the world for you.

    Personally, I'm weak in being social. This I know. I saw a study that said that not being social enough (social media doesn't count) actually lessens the effectiveness of exercise on neurogenesis. In other words, we all need a comprehensive plan, they all build on each other.

    Sometimes I get lazy about exercise or nutrition, well inconsistency halts growth. Consistency is the key to the castle, so that's what I'm working on, dawn and until dusk, being consistent in 4 key areas -- brain nutrition, exercise (I include meditation in there), socialization (with women especially), and active learning (throwing brain games into the mix).

    This is a brain disorder, so actively supporting the brain in every way is paramount. Cheers.
