  1. Poll Results Analysis:
    ____________________________
First, thanks to all 21 members who took the time to read and vote on this poll. And thanks to all members who followed this thread.

There is a caveat in the poll, as some members pointed out, that there was no option to choose that all the given options caused them feelings of guilt, shame or regret. This was fair criticism, I realized, but by then few members had already voted and it seemed too late to add a new option.

    Observation 1:
    _________________
Two-thirds (67%) of the members polled associated watching either stills or videos depicting sex between two people with negative feelings afterwards. Same goes for stills and images of a woman engaging in self-pleasuring.

    Observation 2:
    _________________
Approximately half (50%) the members polled felt they associate guilt, shame or regret with watching videos of a topless or nude woman.

    Observation 3:
    _________________
85% to 90% members felt they did not associate watching stills of topless or fully nude woman's body with feelings of guilt, shame or regret (in other words, 10% to 15% did make this association). This is marked jump in acceptability from the previous category. Interestingly, there is just one member vote difference in the acceptability of topless or nude stills.

    Analysis:
    ____________
Viewing still images of topless or nude female body appear to be a largely guilt-free, shame-free, regret-free category of titillation as opined by most members. For those who wish to eschew the negative emotions of guilt, shame and remorse, and their harmful psychological repercussions; it is better not to go beyond this category.

This is also the type of visual pornography most popular before the internet age of videos, cams and tubes- the era of Playboys and Penthouses (assuming VHS pornography was less common and available). Gary Wilson of YBOP often compares internet-era porn with the girly-magazine porn-era.

Note: I'm in no way trying to endorse any category of visual porn. Those trying to reboot should follow the regular guidelines.

Original Post of Jun 15 below:
    _____________________________
Which categories of Visual Porn DO NOT give you the feelings of guilt, shame or regret afterwards. The goal is to determine the average threshold of Visual Porn where such negative feelings set in among viewers.

Note: Please keep the identification of these negative feelings of guilt, shame or regret separate from your successes and failures in your Reboot efforts. Thanks!

I find this post both confusing and pointless tbh.

  3. Re: ~POLL~ Relating Visual porn, and guilt afterwards.

I can respect your opinion, Aussie_85. My reason for posting this poll is- unlike real intimacy and sex, and even to an extent vanilla MO, Visual Porn has the potential to sow the seeds of negative feelings of guilt, shame and regret. These negative feelings resulting out of Visual Porn may cause self-esteem and confidence issues.

Who knows, after a time, the unconscious brain may even start associating these negative feelings and sexual arousal- thereby leading to ED issues which many of the members here seem to be grappling with.

It might be worth finding which Visual Porn eschews these negative feelings. They may be the 'lesser evil' if one can resist escalation.

For me,after using & viewing all types & genres of porn i felt guilty and ashamed.Guys who watch/watched gay or tranny porn who aren't gay - would feel the most amount of shame. And the guys who watched other stuff like rape and incest, scat, violent stuff.

For the most part,i felt guilty & ashamed over 2 things:

    - The type of material i was viewing

    - Being lonely and using porn as my 'sex life',this by far made me feel like a fucked up freak...especially before i found YBOP,because i actually enjoyed PMO more than real sex.

Feelings of guilt and shame pretty much come with porn addiction,it really doesn't matter exactly what people are feeling guilty & ashamed over.We know this is a part of the addiction and there really isn;t much point investigating it.when i was at aorund 70 days no orgasm i had little to no feelings of shame and guilt left...they disappear with time. After 12 months it'd all be a distant memory.

  5. Re: ~POLL~ Relating Visual porn, and guilt afterwards.

Thanks, loro. I'm asking about the pre-YBR (ie, pre-Reboot-effort) period for a reason. Because once in the reboot phase, it is natural to feel guilt, shame, regret since any kind of P viewing undermines our no-PMO goal and is labelled a relapse. But these negative feelings are more due to failure in meeting our goal of a successful reboot, than to a specific P category itself.

Hope, my differentiation between a pre-YBR and in-YBR period makes more sense now. Since you never felt any negative feelings for any of the 10 categories in the pre-YBR, pre-Reboot phase, kindly do tick all the boxes and vote. Your vote is important to our party, ahem!

EDIT: Aussie, loro, thanks for your feedback- I have changed the phrasing of the question to make it easier to understand.

Gently bumping. Just 5 members have voted so far. I've tried not to be flippant in preparing this poll.

25+ users are logged on at any given moment, yet so few have voted. Please vote to help collect some data on this.

    Thanks.

I also think this is pointless.

But, why is there no option for ''none of the above?''

Use your words and explain why. Contribute something constructive.

The poll is a good indication of how porn addicts view women and their addiction. Note that all of the voters so far feel no guilt about viewing a naked woman unless she is involved in a sexual act. That's an important distinction.

This poll almost triggered some porn flashbacks of mine. Just saying.

    Interesting topic though.

  11. Re: ~POLL~ Relating Visual porn, and guilt afterwards.

Thanks for your opinions and votes, guys.

Al, yes I did miss out on 'none of the above' in hindsight. Milder options that could have been added were 'Swimsuit clad' and even 'Short skirts'. Options could have been added on the other end of the spectrum too. But I wanted to restrict the number of choices to 10, otherwise the survey becomes too cumbersome for the voter.

@CookieMonster- "Note that all of the voters so far feel no guilt about viewing a naked woman unless she is involved in a sexual act. That's an important distinction." Yes, well said, but let's wait if more data is forthcoming from the forum members. More the voters, the better the data quality.

no94, thanks, in my defense I tried to use the least offensive words :) I was planning on using the drier word 'intercourse' instead of 'sex', but then the coverage of 'sex' is better as it includes other acts not covered by 'intercourse'.

Interesting responses so far. But as a PMO addict, I have to choose none!

  13. Re: ~POLL~ Relating Visual porn, and guilt afterwards.

TotallyYours, hope you read the poll subject clearly. You are to tick only those options that you consider guilt-free, shame-free, remorse-free. You can edit your vote, too.

It's perfectly okay too, if someone considers all options as guilt-free, shame-free, and remorse-free. The goal of the poll is simply to find out how the distribution is, where the threshold's at, on the average.

Leaving the P categories we associate with shame, etc, may be particularly helpful in accelerating the reboot process.

    Gentle bump.

Re: ~POLL~ Relating Visual porn, and guilt afterwards.

Ah! Did not read correctly. I would have to revise my poll to none of the above, which there is not option for.

Could there be an option for a depiction (non-photograph) of a nude woman, as in a sculpture or painting? I could choose that since major art pieces sometimes show nude men or women because they are not meant to cause arousal in the viewer but to show the beauty of the human body. Sadly, the P industry describes itself in this way even though it's usually not the human body: pills, chemicals, surgery, fake love, etc.

    A gentle bump again.

Bumpity bumpity bump bump. If you find the poll relevant, please take this short survey. Stuck at 16 voters in all. Greater the number of opinions, the more confidence we can have in the data collected.

What is the point of the poll, everything has their own opinion on porn. What this forum needs is a neurologist or some other kind of expert to precisely state where the damage comes from.

I can easily get super rock hard from watching Kim Kardashian ass in yoga pants in bent over position, and proceed to MO. Completely non nude and no porn by any definition. In real life I would see girl in bikini or in the same yoga pants and with great ass, and I wouldn't get any kind of erection... I would think that that is super hot and wonder why I dont get hard.

I don't need that,i just need to reboot and rewire.

It doesn't really matter where the 'damage' - which we already have an idea, the dopamine receptors - comes from.at the end of the day we have to reboot and rewire = recover.

If you guys want to become sex therapist or study the subject,by all means go for it,lol.
