Most harmful activity while rebooting?

    So I want to optimize my reboot and was just wondering what is helping/hindering you the most in your reboots, so I just made those 2 polls to have some kind of representative answer and not just the advice of a single person. Don't get me wrong, advice is great, but also highly subjective.

    So here we go.

    Internet surfing. Other drugs ( = alcohol ) breathing closely down on it´s neck.

    You are just surfing some pages and then an urge hits. You try to avoid it and continue surfing some other pages ( because being at the computer is so comfy and easy, you just don´t want to quit it and go doing something else ). But once that urge has arrived, it doesn´t easily fade away because you have conditioned porn to computer. The more time you stay there, the stronger the " tunnel vision " becomes and you might go to that " autopilot " state when nothing matters, only your desires.

    Alcohol weakens your control. Once again, your desires become much more stronger than reasoning. Fortunately, I always drink with friends so the possibility for relapse is weak ( although possibility for peeking pictures becomes really high ). But then there´s the hangover. I have never " beat " hangover. If I had hangover in the morning, I always relapsed during the day ( because I wanted to escape that shitty feeling ). And I usually binged heavily.

    Internet surfing is more dangerous because you generally do it more. But hangover is stronger.

    Ok, you might have a point, I should've been more specific.

    What is most harmful OTHER THAN PMOing, of course.

    Being on the internet on my computer is a death sentence for me. I could spend 8 hours ( i I don't ) on my phone and not watch porn even if it was in my face from an ad. On my computer I wouldn't last a minute.

    I agree with all the people voting for internet surfing, it truly is one of the most harmful activities and it's a major trigger because on the internet you're always one step away from porn. But my vote goes to watching television because it's generally much worse than the internet for your brain. When you're on the internet you're the one who chooses what kind of stuff you want to watch or read or whatever. tv is basically giving up command of your thoughts since it throws whatever it wants at you, and it's a much worse trigger than internet in my opinion. That is because you can actually go through the process of stopping yourself from relapsing on the internet by not going to sites where explicit stuff might be shown and putting filters on your computer to block all porn, but on television you can't do anything to prevent it, if it shows something explicit you only know after you've watched it, and by then you might already by firing up your pc ready to do some binging.

    That's only my opinion though, based on the experiences I've had with each of those things.

    Also, to make a suggestion for an option to add to the poll, the worse activity to do while rebooting for me would be fantasizing.

    what do people suggest doing other than internet surfing? I'm way too socially anxious to get out there and join a club of some sort. The only way I have pushed myself in social situations is when under the influence of alcohol. It's annoying because there are lots of good daily habits I would like to incorporate - but most of them involve internet.
    for example:
    learning guitar independantly - need internet for tuition
    learning a language - easier to do on internet

    Exercise? You could maybe join a gym. Also you can always get some books and learn that way instead.

    It may be convenient to use the internet to do these things, but there are plenty of books available. People somehow got by before the internet and you can too if it's something you want to do.

    I recommend going to the library. It's something to do, you don't have to talk to anyone and you can get some books to bring home to study whatever interests you.

    So internet usage seems to be the No. 1 harmful activity for the most rebooters.

    To me it is no problem at all, no urges, nothing. Just a waste of time, but that's another issue.

    Stay away from dating websites, escort websites and also websites like Worldstarhiphop. Also any topics that talks about a sex life of a person;marriage topics etc.

    They have an effect on your dopamine receptors for one. Some here debated that those activities negatively impact your reboot, so I picked this up.

    But even it wasn't for the dopamine effect, those activities still erode your willpower if you indulge in them too often.
    And willpower is much needed when you fight PMO addiction.

    Surprised other drugs is not leading the poll. I wonder if Internet surfing actually inhibits progress? I would imagine cocaine something actually alters dopamine receptors as being worse.

    Or is the question entirely what makes a relapse more probable?

    I think I've heard about that too, never really understood it. I would think that when you eat junk food, your dopamine rises (but doesn't spike) and it would provide a nice uplifting mood. That's how I see it at least.

    I advise everyone to get Procon Latte Content blocker and put all your necessary work/school related stuff on the website and Limit internet acces to just those sites on the whitelist. Relapse became impossible unless for the times I put down the content blocker because I felt too safe.
