Men of Steel [GROUP]

  1. Well, after my fallout, I feel a lot better. Today was great. I spent 5 hours in a Prayer Tent on campus, and I also got to write down a basic outline of my lesson plan for the small groups I am leading in my dorm. God desires us to be close to him, and he'll give us the strength to come back. This forum really helps motivate me to get back on track. (I'm signed up for No-Fap November)

You had a great streak so don't discount the positive rewiring you accomplished in that time. Also realize you don't want to further undo your good work. You remind us that lust never fully goes away while we still have a beating heart. Meaning temptation is always there. We can only better prepare ourselves to resist and choose the better path.

Take some time to tweak your recovery/life plan for your weekly, daily, hourly routines. Always nurture it regularly with prayer.

I've had some recent cravings lately too but when they come I can remember better that they don't fulfill and they're lies. They also turn me off in a way when I think about how great things have been. Even still, our minds can get weak and the grass can seem greener on the other side. That's where the routines, habits, rewiring, and grace of God help us get through it:

    "I bring about the difficulties
    and I overcome them."
    - Jesus to St. Faustina

Had a great run, beat 10 days, passed my goal, and slipped up this morning. Resetting but bumping my goal up to 30 days! It's much easier when I focus on what I should be doing instead of what I should not be doing.

  6. Guys, I need some help. I had gone a month of NPMO and then for the last 4 days, I have been binging carelessly. I just don't care anymore if I am doing it. I know life is better without it, but for some reason I can't convince myself to stop. I also have been so far away from God for the last month; it's ridiculous. I've become complacent with it and I have no motivation to reconnect with God, even though I know I need to. Basically, I've just been so neutral lately that life is depressing. I don't know what to do because I feel like I don't even care to fix myself in any way.

I want to blame some of this on the fact that I am on Winter break from college right now and everything seems weird because I am back home. But I want to fix this so I don't continue when I get back to college.

IS, I feel your pain since I just edged and reset my counter. Things will naturally get better as you return to school but some important things need to be resolved (for both of us).

We've let our desire for PMO increase and desire for life decrease. We can either focus on decreasing PMO desire OR increasing our desire for life and love. Our job (I assume yours is student), family, friends, faith, need a revamping and recommitting of our devotion. I know it sounds simple but I think it's true.

On another note, I would do some detoxing. Listen to a long talk or video. I'd recommend Detox by Jason Evert (cheap download or free portions on youtube, I posted about it here: http://www.yourbrainrebalanced.com/index.php?topic=14782.0) or something similar. Take some quite time for prayer, journaling, or worship.

After that, organize your day and schedule better. Check your goals or to-do list and prioritize what you want to do.

Increase your desire for life and love and PMO will seem like a weird nightmare.

It is quited dead here, isn't it?
    Well, let's revive it here.
I found now probably a good source about our issue.
    http://www.cfcnb.org/docs/Sexual_Purity.pdf
Originaly I was founding some source pdf of book from Josh Harris which I have and I would also recommend it (Sex is not a problem (Lust is). But I found that pdf and when I will time I will read and study it.
We need to motivate ourselves daily and pray for pure heart. And remember 1. Corinthians 10,13:
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Hey RJ, I'm not the thread starter so I can't edit the first post, but I may use my first post to keep up to date news and records of the group. Yes, it has been a little dead lately but I'm not opposed to reconnecting.

    A way out

I like this part of the verse. So many times in my temptations little things will come up to draw me out and I realize "This is my way out." Sometimes I take it. Sometimes I don't. I need to recognize those points, before my thoughts get deeper, and train myself to take the way out.

Thanks for the PDF. I'll come back and post after I've had time to read it. Have a great week!

Hey guys. Sorry for not checking in sooner. Small update for me since internet addiction is killing my productivity (and eventually leads to mindless relapse):

Just activated Stay Focusd and Net Nanny for Chrome on my laptop (I can't bring myself to use internet explorer). M-F, 7-5, they block practically all news, social, and fun sites on the web. I left a two hour window at lunch but it only has a 15 minute maximum.

On another note, should we deactivate this group, join another, or start a new group? I think the original creator is no longer active, so we can't update the thread or first post. We could keep everything the same, or change some things, and just have an updated thread. Is this bad in internet forum land, lol? I don't know so share your thoughts.

    Gentlemen,

Is this group still open? I have been around a little while now but want to encourage you guys and also engage the aspect that I happen to be a Christian too. I want to "take this on the road" and get serious about using the power of this forum and YBOP to help people in the church (and beyond).

My journal/story is linked in my signature. Be warned, guys. Don't follow my mistakes.

Hey maloo. The group is still technically open however I'm debating whether or not to restart it on a new thread. What ddo you think. I haven't seen the original creator around in a while and it would be nice to be able to control and update the opening post. Have a good day.

I was a little confused about if this was actually a group that did something at all.

I think restarting it would be a great idea. I think the name should specifically say christian group so people know it.

I am always glad when i find a christian user on this site and having a topic to collectively add things would be good.

Then there would be a topic where people couldn't hate on us for bringing up God.

I think that a refresh, or new thread, would be a good idea. It's helpful to not have a lot of setbacks up on the boards too, since those tend to duplicate themselves.

The key may be to just get a group going and be sure to actually obey the forums rules (ie post every week).

An immediate statement and agreement of the rules would not be needed. I think the main reasons the original group failed was because they only posted about failures and rules.

Lets just be a group of guys encouraging each other daily.

I will make a group in another day if no one else wants to. If you make a group, post the link here also.

Maybe have the group be Men of steel V2

Yes, many rules are not needed. We can even keep the same name and request the admin to take down this thread to avoid confusion. If you guys like the Bible verse we can keep that too or do a new one. I'm fine either way. We had some other options posted earlier on.

If we do keep the group name, we should look for a superman quote and image to put at the top.

    HA, that sounds awesome.

Totallyyours, I see that you have posted a lot in this group and seem committed. You also seem to post a lot in other places. I would like to see you be the admin. What do you think?

    Sounds good.

Has anyone in this group ever met in person? Like in a not-too-public-yet-public safe place before? I wonder how difficult that would be to round up.

I accept your nomination and will create a new thread soon. I'll also send an invite out to you and some of the recent members of this group. We can change the name or anything about the group if you guys want.

Excellent idea. No I have never met anyone in this group and we've never discussed meeting. I doubt we live in the same area but we could private message each other to find out. If not, Google+ has hangouts that you can video chat in. There's also Skype but I think it may have limitations.

Okay. Google+ will work I guess, but if anyone lives in Southern California, let me know.
