Hi, guys, my name is Paul I usually watch porn in a week once and after watching porn I can't control myself and I do masturbate. After masturbating I feel very bad and also heard some myths regarding masturbation leads to hair fall. so i am very curious to know about this. please share your views

    Hi Paul,

You've given yourself the answer. If you feel bad afterwards, don't do it.

There is no evidence that not masturbating has negative effects; for instance, the link between not masturbating and prostate cancer is bogus science. On the other hand, there are stories from different nofap communities that not masturbating can make you feel better.

I am not sure if what you're doing isn't masturbating to porn though since essentially you masturbate right after watching porn. I would first of all try to reduce the porn usage a bit more and then go from there and see how you feel about it. I once wrote down all my orgasms and how I felt immediately after and on the next day for a few months and I could clearly see that I felt bad, lethargic, and depressed after masturbating (without porn) the next day, every time. So for me, it's been a no-brainer to try and reduce masturbation without porn as well.

    Hello Paul & welcome!

Some people have reported hair loss and believe masturbation is linked. There is no research to support this, but a significant number claim it. The choice is your friend.

I am not sure why you masturbate after watching porn and not during it. But both porn and masturbation cause a release of the neurotransmitter dopamine. That is central to your/our addiction. So, stop NOW! It is not normal to have fake sex via porn or masturbation at all. Mimicking sex by stroking/rubbing your penis is not normal buddy.

Let's be honest here, it is normal to masturbate. This is a board full of people who took it way too far and created problems and chaos, but it is normal to masturbate...studies and statistics prove that. However, if you feel bad afterward, it's probably not something you should keep doing, even if it's not a full-blown addiction. I don't have a gambling problem and probably visit a casino 2-3 times per year, but when I do and I lose $20, I feel bad. Same thing. Chronic masturbation can lead to several physical side effects, but losing your hair has never been scientifically proven. It sounds like something balding people invented.

But does that mean it's good and healthy? It's normal in Western countries to eat tons of sugar and fat and be very overweight (2/3 of the US population is overweight or obese), but that doesn't mean it's healthy or good. What always bothers me is that most people claiming masturbation is good have never actually gone without it for a considerable time, so how can they make those claims? Stop masturbating for a month and if that doesn't change anything, alright, go back to it. But I'd bet in many cases, there will be some improvement in various areas.

I respectfully challenge this Joshua. What studies? What statistics?

This is a porn addiction recovery forum. Non-compulsive masturbation is not something that this website advocates against. With that being said, masturbation is a personal choice, whether or not you choose to participate in it. And to be clear, not masturbating isn't the same as refraining from orgasm altogether.

Many porn addicts find it challenging to masturbate without porn or fantasizing about porn during the act. However, after a period of time, many porn addicts do resume moderate masturbation routines. It has benefits and drawbacks. Some people prefer the reduced stress that masturbation brings, while others prefer the "stress" and hardness it to propel them towards their goals. Everything in life has pros and cons.

    Finally, this.

Effects of masturbation are a fraction compared to those of porn.
Let's face it you nobody watches 1 vid of porn anymore, they watch it with 20 tabs open and go over a few hundred girls in a session, and that's a harmful addiction no matter how you look at it.

Also it sounds like the reason you feel bad about it is due to silly social pressure (e.g. hair fall off, that's ridiculous). Once or few times a week is totally fine.

Sorry to see you had a relapse last month Alex. I hope you are in a better place now.

By normal, what I should say is "common" in that more than 50% of the male population has done so in the past year according to numerous studies.
Apologies for not using the word "common." The only point I was trying to make is that there are a lot of people doing it who don't have it lead to the place most of us found ourselves. Apologies for any misinterpretation.

OK, fair enough. I didn't click on the links because I know that masturbation is common.

The OP said that he watches porn every time before he mastubates. This could be marginally better than orgasming while watching porn, but it is still active addiction. Once a week is way too much for that behaviour. Better than once a day, but far from ideal.

As to the separate question of non-porn masturbation once a week: Normal? Yes. some people might masturbate a couple times a week, but that is in the normal range and not likely to have any major negative impact on your life relative to your peers. That said, I do think that it would be much better to not masturbate at all and that should be the ultimate goal. If you keep up with non-porn masturbation once a week consistently, you will be "normal" in the sense of not being affected by a pathology and you will be "cured" enough to not have a need to come back to the forum. If you want to be at your full potential though, aim to eliminate masturbation entirely.
