    Post before you relapse

Arguably the most important aspect in overcoming this addiction is to break the autopilot of
urge-------->relapse. Doing something, anything, in between the initial feeling of the urge and the acting on it starts to break down this autopilot mode which is called colloquially 'habit.'

So, this is a thread to post urges on as and when they hit you. Hopefully someone will post something helpful for you too. But even if you relapse afterwards, you know you're making progress if you post on the forum first.

Don't just relapse and then come here all depressed. Post before you relapse.

It's impossible to relapse if you find this forum and learn all about the dangers.

Interesting, that's not my experience. I'm happy that you've got this under control, this thread is for people who do struggle from time to time.

Your idea with this thread is a good one. Before anyone wants to watch P and his brain rationalizes that possibility somehow he should come on these forums, and the fear will kick in... This fear thing really helps, cause one does not need to exert all the willpower just not to open a new tab of porn.

BTW thanks for posting that link about the workshop, I think you should have it in your signature, more people should be exposed to such indepth analysis of addictions.

I would encourage anyone who finds themselves relapsing more than would like to post something here now, even if they don't have any urges right now. That way they'll be 'subscribed' and can post here in future, as well as being of support to other members who are struggling.

I actually I had one just then.
I was sitting downstairs and my brother just told me he was going out with his friends. I saw him switching off his PC as he was preparing to leave. And BAAAM! Right there. All those negative thoughts started popping up in my mind.

The Addicted Me: "What? 3-4 hours of free time all by myself with no one around? That tube-site I frequently visit must have posted a lot of new updates! Why not just switch his PC back on as soon as he leaves and take a peek? I'm not gonna watch the whole thing of course... just a little peek for curiosity's sake..."

The other Me: "But what if there was a nice update posted?"
The Addicted Me: "Well, I don't know we'll see..."
The other Me: "NO. Wait! Stop this shit right here!"

But thankfully I was able to come back to my senses soon enough. I mainly reminded myself that it was the addiction talking. What about that streak of no PMO i've got going? Do you want to let down all the people on YBRB? Just for a few minutes pleasure? What about God? Would he approve of that? etc etc

And then I came to this forum and saw this thread. And now I feel much better. Another day saved.... :)

fiance broke up with me last night...

do not remember the last time i even looked at p. Guess this is a trigger from stress. I never got into fetishes or anything. I have craving for particular p stars from time to time. Today i am having a craving for one in particular. With all that is going on i am finding it hard to abstain.

Going to work out soon...any suggestions on how to get through this/get over the stress from the break up?

    BRILLIANT motherfucking idea!
I would like to announce my urge. It's been creeping on me for a few days. I'll do anything to avert the relapse now.

    I'm sorry, pal.
I haven't found any real "cure" or "balm" to ease the pain of a breakup.
Shall situation like this arise, I keep myself preoccupied with "mechanical" and "automatic" stuff, i.e. cleaning my house and car, doing chores, repairing the car or simply reading- it's great to stop the excessive thoughts, if only for a moment.
    Time will do the rest.
I know you can't be fully satisfied with the pieces of advice given above, but they are the best I know.

I am going to try to this exercise video tomorrow if I get an urge. It's a 5 minute short arm workout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9TmL-9YrvM

Also I might try guided meditation and reminding myself of the consequences of jerking off. (This has worked before for me).

    Re: ***Emergency Urge Control Centre***

YBR has helped me in indirect ways recently. When I get the urges or find myself "stumbling" upon something inappropriate and easily a trigger, I can hear group members in my mind as well as my ERP statements:

I'm so bored of this garbage and how it makes me feel afterwards.

This is a giant waste of my life.

I feel sorry for these actors because they may never know true love (stolen from Harry Potter!)

    I'm tired of the lies.

It sounds simple, but minimizing or delegitimizing the enemy when I'm face to face with it helps me snap out of the haze and remember something positive that I should be doing.

Since this starting to sound more and more like Harry when he is possessed by Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix, I'll just expand this thought: when being controlled by Voldemort and told that he is weak, Harry remembers all the bad things that happened in his life. He defeats Voldemort by remembering his friendships and joyful experiences, then says (in the movie):

"You're the weak one. And you'll never know love, or friendship. And I feel sorry for you."

There's a tradition that the devil hates to be laughed at. This is actually part of the purpose of Halloween (dressing like demons, then joking about it to dismiss the fear). So laughing at or dismissing the urge can help me to move on to something good.

    This doesn't always work.

But it helps you be aware of your urges and what is happening.

If you're going to watch porn, just shut down that damn computer and stay away from it until the urge has passed. It only requires 10 seconds of willpower to close the browser and turn off the computer. And it works. Remaining in from of your PC while you have cravings for porn, is like being an alcoholic and trying to resist the urge to drink while sittingn in a beer house.

It is my understanding that the "urge" term applies not only to porn+masturbation, but also masturbation alone.

My urges right now are for the touch, scent, and sexual contact with a woman. It's overwhelming. I have no desire for self release though. I'm VERY frustrated.

I know very well how that feels!
You described my urges exactly (+ masturbation/release out of pure frustration).
Wanna chat or sth? No pressure though.
