Effects of Nofap on OCD?

I have had the type of obsessive-compulsive disorder known as "pure O" since I was about 11 or 12. This type of OCD is characterized by painful intrusive thoughts and the compulsion to fight or neutralize them in some way.

While I first got OCD a few years before I started fapping, I wonder if the brain changes causes by nofap could possibly alleviate my OCD symptoms (which have gotten nearly unbearably bad in the last couple of years)? I have read that OCD is possibly caused (or at least made worse) in part by chemical imbalances in the brain. If rebooting from a porn addiction improves the balance of brain chemicals and fixes faulty neural wiring, does it stand to reason that this might help with OCD somehow?

Have any OCD sufferers here benefited from stopping porn use and/or masturbation?

I actually have a similar problem. I am only on my 4th day of No Fap but this would be an interesting thing to keep an eye on.

I've had severe OCD since I was a child.

I remember I would feel like I had to align my body and jaw when I did things, I was always obsessed with grease and germs and I used to wash my hands till they bled. This was up to 2 years ago, coincidentally when I started DRASTICALLY reducing my PMO. I never had a full reboot until now, but I used to consume porn daily 2-3 times a day for maybe 15 years. Going from that to relapses a couple times a week then every few weeks did WONDERS for my OCD.

Right now - my obsession for germs and grease is non-existent. Example: I used to come home, wash my hands ritually, and if I touched anything that my mind allocated as dirty or greasy, I would wash my hands all over again before touching anything allocated as clean. Now, I DON'T CARE - I feel like a normal person. I will of course, wash my hands when they are really dirty or greasy, but I would say it is in the realm of normal behavior.

    Other examples:

    - Enter public washrooms without care (never entered them before)
    - Am turned on by the gritty aspects of sex (IE I used to find a woman's discharge disgusting before... now its awesome!)
    - Don't over analyze social situations as much if at all
    - Over thinking and analyzing thoughts on my own haven't' disappeared entirely, but the degree to which I do it and how long has reduced by 90% - sometimes if I catch myself doing it I am able to just cut the thought process and realize how stupid I am being

I wouldn't say my OCD is gone, because it has been a part of me since I was a child - but I used to masturbate as a kid too (too often) since age 5 - so I think that frequent and over masturbation either was the cause of it OR DRASTICALLY exacerbated the condition. From time to time I feel myself habitually feeling like aligning my body in certain situations and sometimes my brain will randomly deem something dirty - but they are so rare, and even when they do happen I don't feel a compulsion to follow through with it - I can look at it, laugh and it and stop myself which is a HUGE step.

Overall, I don't know whether it was no PMO or my diet, but cleaning up both aspects of my life have literally reduced the prevelance and degree of my OCD experiences by 80-90 percent. Good luck.

Most likely no fap only influences sexual forms of OCD. People with non sexual forms of OCD will not associate their brain changes with their obsessions, unless those obsessions are sexual in nature and are fueled by porn. If obsessional fears and doubts pertain to your sexuality, then giving up porn is a must and will make a huge difference. If obsessional fears are unrelated to sexuality, giving up porn will have little if any effect.
