I will start it off....These are three tips that I recently posted:

    #1

When you have an urge, listen to music. First of all it distracts you from focusing on pmo, next you can multitask when listening to music so you don't waste your time, and finally depending on the type of music you listen to, your brain waves change according to the musical frequency thus changing your mood. So for example if you feel you lack willpower, put on some inspiring music genre and you will feel mentally stronger. If you have anxiety...put on some positive music....etc etc.

    #2

Take a walk in nature. This has many positive effects on the psyche. But make sure your walk is meaningful. By that I mean you can meditate on your surroundings. Take in the beauty and mystery of mother nature realizing that there is far more to explore in life then sitting at your computer. This will also help you to realize that sexuality is a sacred and beautiful gift from nature which should be shared between you and your partner, rather than violating this process through pmo.

    #3

If you have an uncontrollable urge try this: Buy a weight (heavy but not unbearable) and hold up until your urge subsides. There are many benefits to this idea as you are able to 1. gain muscle 2. test and build character and willpower 3. associate pmo urges to physical pain (thus rewiring your brain to avoid thinking of pmo) 4. release built up sexual tension/ energy 5. it will take your mind of pmo fantasies.

I would also like to add something else:

I think prevention is the best course of action when it comes to urges.

So how can you prevent something so powerful from taking control of your mind?

Two ways: 1> Fight back with something as powerful. It it can be doing something you enjoy like a hobby, working on a goal like losing weight or studying to get into that special career, or it can be reciting your goals to why you chose to commit to nofap. What ever works for you!

2> Take your conscious mind off the center stage. By that I mean you can mediate which involves going into an altered state of awareness, going to exercise which clears your mind as you focus on your physical activity (also with exercising your blood circulates better to your brain possibly allowing better control over your impulses), or finally just go to sleep!

Just take conscious deep breaths and ask yourself "Do I want to PMO or get real girls?" then imagine that you're urge is right in front of you, stare your urge in the eyes and show your urge that it has no control over you anymore. In 5 seconds after doing this the urge will start to shrink and disappear.

    Great advice RareVisionz!

When you look at your urges like that, you are less likely to act on your emotions and impulses.

    To jack91:

That's interesting. I guess that's a side effect of rebooting.

Is there any advice that you would like to provide that subsided any urges/ reinforced your willpower over your last 191 days?

alphabetaomega001 "No. Edge Not. Fap. Or Fap Not. There is No Edge."

Let's try to jump start this thread!

Here are 4 new ways to circumvent your urges and get back on track to rebooting:

    #1

Get a container and set aside 1$ each day you go without pmo. When you reach the end of your pmo-counter, purchase something special for yourself! This will give you another reason to abstain from pmo and will get you in the goal-setting mindset. In the end you will have two prizes: (one tangible) your gift, (and another intangible) a normally-functioning sexual system.

    #2

Many times we have urges and relapse because we don't have enough self-respect to take proper care of our bodies. If a person is able to balance their life through personalizing a healthy diet, exercise routine, and allocate time for personal intellectual growth (outside of school!), then they will naturally have a more positive, respectful and nurturing relationship with themselves. They will be able to have the necessary control to not exploit themselves for momentary sexual pleasure.

    #3

Each time you have an urge, go into a public space and ask someone if they need assistance with what they are doing. This can be anything from calling your friends/ family to doing any favors or providing support. If that's not an option, go ask a neighbor or a random person off the street if they are in need of assistance to carry groceries etc...etc... Doing this will distract you from your urges and change your self-gratifying pmo mindset to a selfless one .

    #4

Limit or eliminate any social electronic devices you have contact with during the day

This video says it all: (I advise you to watch the whole thing, it is very inspirational!)

    Riddles are a great way to keep your mind off of your urges;

    Try these:

    #1

Question: Smell me, buy me, and deliver me.
    I won't change.

    What am I?

    #2

Question: A natural state, I'm sought by all.
Go without me, and you shall fall.
You do me when you spend,
and use me when you eat to no end.

    What am I?

You have a large number of friends coming over and they all get thirsty. Your first friend asks for 1/2 a cup of water. Your second friend asks for 1/4 a cup of water. Your third friend asks for 1/8 a cup of water, etc.

How many cups of water do you need to serve your friends?

ONE OF THE REASONS PEOPLE RELAPSE IS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT OVERPOWER THEIR PMO URGES OR THEY SPEND TOO MUCH TIME WANDERING THE INTERNET OR FORUMS UNTIL THEY CAN'T FIND ANY ANSWERS AND RELAPSE

Lets change this by building up a database of resourceful information and tactics to out-smart, over-power, and battle head-on with our urges.

There are many strong-minded people on this forum who have gone months and years without PMO. I encourage these people and everyone else to share and compile what has worked for them so that others many benefit on thread.

LET'S SHOW OUR URGE'S THAT WE HAVE THE COLLECTIVE POWER TO PREVAIL!!! :)

Personal PMO urges are the best ways to explore the power of your will.

    ADVICE:

Next time you have an urge, think to yourself "is this how tough I really am? is this the extent of my willpower? or can I go further, push harder towards my goal and squeeze in a another day!"

I KNOW I CAN, AND SO CAN YOU

We all have unlimited potential to be who we want. The only person who can stop yourself is yourself!

    Here are today's anti-urge tips:

    #1

If you have an urge that makes the lower half of you burn like fire and go into overdrive and relapse is inevitable, then you need download a porn site blocker on your browser. This will force you to get outside and spend your sexual energy talking to girls. Your computer will essentially be rendered useless in helping you relapse.

    #2

Find a way to get your hands dirty. And make sure it takes a long time! This can be anything from an oil change, chemical project, painting session etc etc... You need to choose something that must be finished once started. This will preoccupy your mind and literally keep your hands busy and unavailable.

What I did was endure the urges until they went away. I could barely sleep for three weeks because of the irresistable urges. Once you passed that phase, the urges won't return. The last time I had urges was 9 months ago. Now I can abstain cold turkey from MO whenever I want without experiencing any cravings. I do MO to get used to condoms, but I can abstain for weeks when I'm feeling tired.

    Thanks for your input rebooting.

Your recovery period makes sense according what jscotty posted on a different thread:

"The human brain and body works in cycles that are multiples of 7. If you've heard someone say that any habit can be broken or learned in 21 days, it's true. There is medical evidence that shows how neurons in the brain develop similar to how mushrooms grow. If you start a particular habit, whether good or bad, begins in your brain as a small nub in the first week that eventually grows into a stem-like structure the second week and then at the end of the third week the top of the neuron flourishes and opens up like an umbrella.

Well the reverse happens when you break a habit where the umbrella like structure turns back into a stem, then a nub. But because the neuron has been planted like a "seed" it will remain there for a very long time much like the way you never forget how to ride a bike or if you do a sporting activity that you haven't done in a long time, you'll say that you are a little "rusty" but you'll quickly regain your ability to do it.

So when it comes to PMO, having that weird feeling is indeed normal because after 21 days or more you've essentially broken the habit. I am coming up on my 21 day mark and I don't feel the urge to look at porn. I've been deleting it as I've been finding on old thumb drives and CD's as I clean up around the house without the desire to do the "one last time" thing.

Is it tempting? Yes. Do I get a little curious as to what I'm throwing out or deleting? Yeah.. I do. But the burning desire to where I just have to look and see is no longer present."

omg.....I tried this, actually works! :)

its like a double-edged sword to fight your addiction (music motivates you, doing your activity at the same time distracts you!)

....no wonder pro-athletes use this to fight their performance anxiety.

Here are today's tips (short and sweet)

    #1

Do not entertain any ideas/ fantasies about pmo. Do not entertain any sexual thoughts for that matter!

    #2

You have an urge? Do NOT rationalize with it. Disregard its power through passive awareness of it's presence in your life. It is in your life not ruling your life!

I honestly cannot believe how well that worked! You are freaking genius. I got so wrap up on finding the answers that I couldn't forces on my cravings and all I wanted was to find the answers no matter what.

A smart landscaper is given the task of placing 4 trees so that they are all the same distance away from each other.

    How does he do this?

An ant gets onto one end of a tight rope that is 1 meter long. The ant is traveling at 1 centimeter per second, but the entire rope is being stretched an extra 1 meter (1,000 centimeters) a second (it can be stretched forever).

Will the ant ever reach the other end of the rope?

It can be quite overwhelming and distressing to view your rebooting period as one big time frame. Rather view each day as a stepping stone to reach your goal.
